It's been over two weeks since my last food review. People are probably going to think that I don't cook anymore. The truth? I'm cooking all the time but can't seem to get photos of my food that make any sense at all. Am I in a photography rut? Should I just throw my hands in the air and give up? Or maybe rename the blog to something like "susie makes supper without proof"?
There is one meal that I wish I had photographed. Rustic bread pizzas. Oh my. These were so simple and so delicious. Lovely Ingrid does it again (we’ve previously enjoyed her delicious white bean soup) with two recipes for pizza. We, of course, tried both. I was a bit lazy, so I skipped the homemade pesto (which I will try next time) but I did make the spicy marinara (yum). It could have been the order in which we ate these pizzas, but the fennel and sausage pizza was hands down my favorite. And I even used cheap Walmart French bread instead of lovley rustic bread as the crust. Seriously. This pizza was gone in a heartbeat. We will definitely be making pizzas this way in the future.
Do you know what else we will make again? Skillet salmon and Brussels sprouts with lemon and thyme. After a slight war to get Gus to try these two dishes, we ended the meal with “Mom, this is so good! We should make this recipe again.” Really. Says the four year old about salmon and Brussels sprouts. We will also make last week’s pad see yew again, but not until I find miso paste. The substitute that I used (anchovy paste and tahini) was much too salty. Didn’t seem to bother Théa (or Sam, but I didn't take his picture).
